Gearing up for a Big Weekend with Radio 1 in Glasgow
Our summer season blasts off with a bang this weekend, as we make our first visit to the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, taking place on Glasgow Green (23-25 May).
We will be deploying our managed fast card payment system on behalf of our good friends at Central Catering.
This system – previously put through its paces at festivals including Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight, T In The Park, Download, V Festival and Cornbury – enables ultra-fast credit and debit card payment processing in high capacity live event environments and serves as an ideal first step towards a fully cashless event.
This marks our second major BBC event, following our deployment of the same service at last year’s BBC Proms in Hyde Park (also for Central Catering).
Making the weekend even bigger still, we will simultaneously be in action in Lisbon, Portugal, at the UEFA Champions League Final, and Paris, France, at the Roland Garros French Open.
Up to 50,000 revellers will attend the festival on Glasgow Green this Saturday and Sunday.
Coldplay are the headline act on Saturday while One Direction, Calvin Harris, Bastille, Pharrell, Jake Bugg, Lily Allen and Ed Sheeran will also perform that day.
Kings of Leon, The Vamps, John Newman, Rita Ora, The 1975, Tinie Tempah and Paolo Nutini will all perform on the Sunday, with Perry closing the festival.
Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper says: “It’s a phenomenal line-up, probably the best in the world this year, in one of the world’s great music cities.”
Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw is hosting his breakfast show from Glasgow this week in the run-up to the Big Weekend.
